Arts and Crafts

Sligo boasts a thriving arts scene with music, visual art, theatre, literature, film and dance all well represented. There are four key arts organisations in Sligo town; The Model Arts and Niland Gallery, The Hawk’s Well Theatre, Blue Raincoat Theatre Company and The Sligo Art Gallery.

The Model, a beautiful 19th Century building, lies at the heart of the contemporary arts scene. It has stunning gallery spaces and the intimate theatre presents a diverse programme. The Model is home to the Niland Collection featuring works by Yeats, Solomons, Henry and Le Broquy, amongst others.

The Hawk’s Well has been bringing high calibre performing art to Sligo for over 20 years. It maintains an excellent balance supporting the thriving amateur theatre scene while also showcasing a varied programme of professional theatre, music and comedy.

Blue Raincoat Theatre, based in the Factory space, is well known for their cutting edge work. They have a strong summer programme that features the excellent Cairde Festival and an extremely popular series of lunchtime theatre which has previously featured work by Beckett and Yeats.

Sligo Art Gallery is situated in the Yeats Building and has been presenting major exhibitions since the 1970s. It is particularly supportive of young artists and presents a mix of local and national work throughout the year.
